Autobiography

bio

We gather today to honor and celebrate the life and service of Reverend Godson Ejike Njoku, a devoted servant of God, a committed leader in the Body of Christ, and a man who has faithfully labored in the vineyard for nearly four decades.

Beyond the pulpit and ministry platforms, Reverend Njoku is a loving husband and dedicated father. He is married to Mrs. Shalom Njoku, a gracious and supportive partner in life and ministry. Together, they have raised five children — three sons and two daughters — who continue to reflect the values of faith, discipline, and purpose that define their family. His commitment to his home has been as steadfast as his devotion to the Church, and it is evident that God has richly blessed both spheres of his life.

Reverend Njoku's journey began with a powerful and unforgettable encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ in September 1982. In that fateful month, he experienced two terrifying yet life-transforming visions. In the first, he found himself trapped in a blazing tunnel — helpless and without hope. But in the midst of this frightening vision, Jesus appeared and delivered him. In the second encounter, he was forcibly cast into a fiery pit, as if buried alive. Overwhelmed by the dazzling intensity of the light, he cried out, "Jesus, have mercy on me! I surrender to you as my Lord and Saviour!" — and instantly, he was rescued.

It was following this second encounter that the Lord directed him to the Assemblies of God Church, 35–36 Gold Coast Road, Sabon Gari, Kano. With a renewed heart and burning passion, he bought a Revised Standard Version Bible. Between September and December 1982, he read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The Scriptures shaped his thoughts, deepened his conviction, and birthed in him a hunger for more of God. He committed himself to fasting and prayer — and in those quiet, consecrated moments, spiritual chains were broken, limitations shattered, and strength renewed.

Although the call to ministry was clear, answering it was not easy. Reverend Njoku came from a deeply pagan background. His father was a powerful native doctor. Everything in his upbringing stood against the idea of Christian ministry. He hesitated. He resisted. But the more he delayed, the more miserable his condition became. Finally, in 1988, with only ₦300 to his name and had no idea of how he would survive, he enrolled into the Bible School. Humanly speaking, it was an impossible journey. But God made a way.

The Assemblies of God Church, Sabon Gari, Kano, recognized God's hand upon him and awarded him a scholarship after his first semester — a scholarship that lasted until his graduation in 1990 with a Diploma in Theology. Then in 1992, God opened another door — an international scholarship to Canada, where he undertook a Leadership and Communications Familiarization Course from 1993 to 1994.

Pastoral Journey

Across 38 years of ministry, Reverend Njoku served as pastor in four Assemblies of God churches:

  1. Obokofia, Egbema – 5 years
  2. Umuoye, Imerienwe – 4 months (before travelling to Canada)
  3. West-End – 10 years and 4 months
  4. Obinze Church 1 – 19 years, where he concludes his pastoral journey

Leadership Roles

In these churches, his commitment to preaching the Word, building the Church, and discipling believers was unwavering. But his service to the Assemblies of God did not end at the local level. Reverend Njoku served in many strategic roles at the district and national levels. These include:

  • District Treasurer of Owerri District
  • One of the 70 Evangelists for GM 2000, a nationwide crusade to 70 cities in Nigeria, where he ministered in Bonny
  • Sectional Secretary in Urban I, Urban IV, and New Owerri
  • District Sunday School Coordinator for an impressive 15 years
  • Member, Board of Governors – Bethel Seminary
  • Member, Board of Governors – AGDSN, Old Umuahia, Abia State
  • Member and Chairman of numerous district committees and panels

Landmark Projects

By God's grace, Reverend Njoku was also instrumental in leading several landmark projects:

  • He purchased land and built the West-End Church
  • He secured and documented the land for Assemblies of God Church, Obinze 1
  • He oversaw the construction of the Obinze 1 Pastorage
  • And he led the building of a magnificent 3,000-seater auditorium at Obinze 1
  • Founder and owner of the famous Rock Foundation Schools where many lives has been touched.

Each of these achievements is not merely a structural accomplishment but a legacy of vision, leadership, and unshakable faith.

As he retires from his final assignments — Senior Pastor of Assemblies of God Church 1, Obinze, and District Treasurer of the Owerri District — we do not bid farewell to a man, but we celebrate a life poured out for the Gospel. We celebrate the courage it took to say "yes" to God. We honor the sacrifices, the faith, the sermons, the prayers, the souls reached, the leaders mentored, and the churches built.

Reverend Godson Ejike Njoku has run his race with integrity. He has kept the faith. And today, we honor him with gratitude and with joy.

May the God who called him, sustained him, and worked through him continue to bless and keep him in this new season of life.

To God be all the glory.
